After losing all his work due to a computer malfunction—revealing the fragility of digital memory—Othman El Kheloufi offers a spontaneous dive into his repertoire through an improvised concert. Equipped with his trusted saxophone, pedals, and an eurorack modular, he conveys emotions and memory intertwined with a profound desire to delve into heritage utilizing all sorts of instruments.
For the past four years, Othman has traveled between Rabat and Berlin to refine his sound design skills and acquire analog equipment. This journey has allowed him to expand his creative possibilities. With the use of polyrhythmic machines, he now pioneers a new wave of electronic chaâbi.
Othman El Kheloufi is a Moroccan multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges music and theater. A saxophonist, composer, and singer, he brings a Moroccan perspective to his instrument, earning recognition as one of the region's leading saxophonists. In theater, he excels as a set designer and stage director. In 2019, through various collaborations, he produced the album ZidZid, where he explored and brought a Moroccan perspective to jazz. The project MAZMOUT in 2021 explores sound design, electronic, and experimental music, giving significant space to text that reflects the suffering of society. Lately he has been interested in the sufi figure of Sidi Jilali delving into themes of spirituality, trance, and interconnection.
With a strong academic foundation in theater, Othman sees it as a tool to deepen musical understanding and connect with heritage. He is currently pursuing doctoral research on these intersections.
